In her own
words, Dr. Grear explains the practice at the
dedicated breast center, “we
do what it takes to give women what they need: that is
what we are here to do.”

Breast Health: What
Every Woman Should Know
- Breast cancer is the most common type of non-skin
cancer among women in the United States. More than
180,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer
each year.
- One out of seven women will develop breast
cancer in her lifetime.
- Most breast lumps are NOT cancer. More than 80%
of biopsied breast abnormalities are proven benign.
New, less invasive needle biopsy procedures permit
evaluation of breast abnormalities without surgery.
- Most women who are diagnosed with breast cancer
survive. If detected early, breast cancer has a
five-year survival rate of more than 95 percent.
Detection and Diagnosis
The experts at The Breast
Center recommend the following
plan
for women without symptoms:
- Perform a Breast Self Exam Every Month - Women all ages (Sign up for Project 11 to get an email reminder!)
- See your Physician or Gynecologist for a Clinical Breast Exam Once a Year - Women of all ages
- Have a Mammogram Once a Year - Women over 35 and earlier for high risk patients. If you are not sure if you are high risk, consult your physician.
Double Checking Every
Woman's Mammogram
Every woman who has a digital mammogram at The Breast
Center is provided with a second reading using Computer
Aided Detection (CAD). After the clinical breast radiologist
reads your mammogram, the CAD software scans your mammogram
and highlights any suspicious areas for the radiologist
to review in more detail a second time. This additional
service provides you with a more accurate reading.
